Apple iTunes is a versatile media player, media library, Internet radio broadcaster, mobile device management utility, and the client app for the iTunes Store, developed by Apple Inc. It is used to purchase, play, download, and organize digital multimedia, on personal computers running the macOS and Windows operating systems.
While Apple strongly recommends using the latest version of iTunes for maximum security, bug fixes, and compatibility, many advanced users still prefer downloading legacy iTunes versions. Downloading older installers (such as iTunes 12.6.5 or older) is often necessary for users running legacy hardware or outdated Windows/macOS installations that cannot support newer software architectures.
Additionally, some users prefer to downgrade iTunes to retain features that Apple deprecated in newer updates. For example, older versions included the built-in App Store, which allowed users to manage, download, and backup iOS applications (IPA files) directly from their desktop. Legacy versions are also frequently used in the iOS jailbreaking community to ensure compatibility with specific restore and modification tools.
If you are a Windows user, it is critical to download the correct installer architecture for your system. We provide direct download links for both Windows 32-bit (x86) and Windows 64-bit (x64) versions.
Starting with macOS Catalina (10.15), Apple officially discontinued iTunes for Mac. The software was split into three dedicated applications: Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple TV. Device management—including syncing, backups, and IPSW firmware restores—was moved directly into the macOS Finder. If you are running macOS Catalina or newer, you do not need (and cannot install) iTunes.
However, iTunes remains fully supported and regularly updated for Windows users. Apple also recently released the Apple Devices app for Windows 11, which serves as a modern alternative to iTunes for managing iPhones and iPads on PC.
